Don't throw away your old cassette tapes!
For a long time I've been longing to listen to all the great music I have on my old cassettes without having to use my antiquated stereo. Although they're obsolete now and make me feel like an old timer, there was a point in time when the majority of my music as on cassette tapes. I have many a fond memory of sitting down to make a mix tape or to copy a record onto a cassette so I could listen with my walkman. "Walkman?", you say. What is a walkman? Do your research youngsters!
I must have at least one hundred great tapes and mix tapes I've made over the years that I couldn't bare to toss away without first getting all the great music. Beyond the cassettes I also have a large record collection and have wanted to listen to my vynl records on my ipod often. I searched around and realized there was no easy solution to transfer my cassettes and records to CD or mp3 without having to buy more hardware that I eventually wouldn't need so I set out to make one.
Baktrack is a very easy to use web app that allows you to transfer your cassette tapes and your records to Cd or mp3 without having to do much more than plug your computer into your stereo and press play. You can use Baktrack without using any audio cables if your computer has a built in microphone but chances are your also going to end up recording background noise as well. We recommend using an audio cable so you can get a direct signal from your stereo or audio playing device. Depending on the quality or your records or cassette tapes you can generally just press play and Baktrack will separate the tracks for you. If tracks to separate the way you like, there are very easy to use tools which allow you to cut and combine your mp3 tracks once they have been transfered from your cassettes and records.

If you have the space don't throw away your old cassettes after you've finished just yet. As we grow we're hoping to work with plastic recycling centers to work out some kind of recycling plan.
